1/ Hiking Tours, Mountain Trekking Tours

September is generally a good time for adventure tours in Northern Vietnam, except for the period the region is under impact of a typhoon which may last for 2-3 days each. It is fall in the North and the weather is mostly favorable : dry, breezy. Those embark on mountain trekking tours are to be awarded with beautiful clouds on high mountain peaks. From the end of September maple trees on high mountains change to yellow or red colors which are just breathtaking !

September is not a great time for hike tours in the Central Highlands given it is high rainy season.

2/ Adventure Tours

Northern Vietnam is a great place for general adventure tours in September except for the time when it is under impact of a typhoon. Traveling in the North this month you’ll get pleasant temperatures, breezes and mild sunshine.

Though September is not a great time for general adventure tours in the Central Coast, in the Central Highlands and in Southern Vietnam, but it is not a bad time either. In the Central Highlands and Southern Vietnam you have rain alterated by clouds in a day. In the Central Coast, rain is often alternated by clouds or sun and it is not yet continual rain day after day yet, except for the period the region is under impact of a typhoon.

3/ Birding Trips and Bird Watching Tours

September is the time that most migratory bird species are not present in national parks and nature reserves in Vietnam, and bird parks in the country are not busy with wildlife. But the resident birds are more active than in the summer and so it is fine to go on birding tours in September.

Birding sites in Vietnam in September :

- Cuc Phuong National Park (Ninh Binh) : mostly resident birds (Black Bird, pittas, magpie, pipit.

- Van Long Nature Reserve  (Ninh Binh): storks and water fowls.

- Xuan Thuy National Park (Nam Dinh) : mostly storks, migratory species are not present yet.

If it rains, it gets foggy and traveling to the national park is not recommended given the road conditions. Besides, it gets quite foggy anyway and bird-watching is difficult.

- Da Lat (Lam Dong, Central Highlands) : There are days with mostly clouds and birding at Da Lat is a good experience. Else, it’d be too wet and foggy.

- Cat Tien National Park (Dong Nai, Southern Vietnam) : Birding is still great when it does not rain.

If you travel with babies, then it is advised to check the weather in advance carefully before each destination then.
