Vietnam Weather in June 2020

June is summer in the North of Vietnam, the hot and dry season in the Central Coast of Vietnam, the rainy season in the Central Highlands and South of Vietnam.

 June is a great time for family holidays and beach vacations on the Con Dao Islands and the Phu Quoc Island off the shore of southern Vietnam. During this time the sun shines everyday, the sea is calm and clear, it rains for only half an hour daily then stops, and the temperatures are pleasant (27-32oC).

The winds which affect Vietnam in June include:

- The Southeasterly Wind in the North of Vietnam which causes rain and nice temperatures.
- Westerly/Southwesterly Wind in the extreme Northwest of Vietnam, sometimes in the lowlands in the North, in much of the Central Coast of Vietnam which is also known as the foehn wind that causes heat strikes in these regions;
- Southwesterly Wind in the Central Highlands and the South of Vietnam which is moist and pleasant and which causes daily short-lived rain;

In June the Northeast of Vietnam has occasional rain, sunshine and often pleasant temperatures (24-34oC). The Northwest of Vietnam often has heat strikes and strong sun, heavy occasional rain (26-370C). The lowlands of northern Vietnam have mixed heat strikes, pleasant temperatures and t-storms (28-37oC).

The Central Coast has some rain, but mostly strong sun and high temperatures (28-38oC). The northern region (to the north of the Hai Van Pass) of the Central Coast from Thanh Hoa to Hue often has higher temperatures and heat strikes. The region to the south of the Central Coast from Da Nang to Phu Yen often has bright sunshine and nicer temperatures (25-35oC).

The Central Highlands often have daily rain and nice temperatures (20-32oC).

The South of Vietnam still has warm and hot days with temperatures from 26-36oC at the beginning of June but the temperatures turn to be more pleasant thanks to more daily rain later in the month (25-34oC).

Both the Con Dao Islands and Phu Quoc Island have nice weather with sun, clouds, daily short-lived rain, pleasant temperatures (27-32oC).

Below is our review of the weather in Vietnam in June 2020.

1/ June 2020 started with a brief heat strike in the North of Vietnam and the Central Coast (26-37/38oC). The Northeast and Extreme Northwest had pleasant temperatures (24-33oC and 21-33oC respectively). T-storms were found across all the North. The eastern region of the Northwest and the lowlands in the North had hot temperatures (36-39oC).

The Central Highlands and South of Vietnam had daily showers and pleasant temperatures mostly (20-32oC and 25-34oC respectively).

The weather in Vietnam in June 2020 was quite unusual in a way that there were more t-storms with very strong winds which brought down huge trees and destroyed houses.

2/ In second week of June 2020, the weather patterns in all regions in Vietnam were mostly similar to those in the first week. Heat strikes and high temperatures (36-39oC) were found in the eastern Northwest and the lowlands of North Vietnam, in the Central Coast of Vietnam.

Pleasant temperatures and daily t-storms with short-lived showers were found in the Central Highlands and in the South of Vietnam.

The North and the South suffered from t-storms with strong winds. Several huge trees in South Vietnam and the Mekong Delta were downed during these t-storms. Tree fell down on cars and blocked traffic.

In the mid week, a strong whirlwind tore up steel sheets from the roofs of factories in Vinh Phuc and hurled them tens of meters into the air.

In the middle of the second week of June 2020, there was a tropical depression which turned into the first typhoon in the East Vietnam Sea (Typhoon Nuri) which made landfall in Guangdong (China). Torrential rain was found in the North and South of Vietnam as influence by the typhoon. Thanks to the rain that the temperatures were pleasant all over Vietnam from the end of the second week.

3/ At the beginning of the third week of June 2020, the first typhoon/tropical depression was melting away in China, nice temperatures were found in all of Vietnam and rain and t-storms were found in most of the country.

Coming toward the end of the third week, temperatures started getting high again in spots in the North and Central Coast of Vietnam. The Central Highlands and South of Vietnam continued to have nice temperatures and torrential rain.
