Vietnam Weather in October 2020

October is autumn in the North of Vietnam, the rainy season in the Central Coast of Vietnam, the rainy season in the Central Highlands and South of Vietnam.

 There can be typhoons hitting the Central Coast of Vietnam in October of which the winds are devastatingly strong which could cause torrential rain and floods in the region.

There could be heavy rain in the far northern mountains of Vietnam in October which sometimes makes it not possible for adventure tours in the region. But when it is dry, October offers great opportunities for taking photos of heavenly clouds and mesmerizing golden rice terraces.

The winds which affect Vietnam in October include:

- The Southeasterly Wind in the North of Vietnam which causes rain and nice temperatures. The North often experiences pleasant breezes during the month.
- The Northeasterly Monsoon which comes in spells and which brings pleasant or cool temperatures in the North and North of the Central Region.
- Southwesterly Wind in the Central Highlands and the South of Vietnam which is moist and pleasant and which causes daily rain and nice temperatures. The wind is often strong this month and heavy rain is found in these two regions.

Both the Con Dao Islands and Phu Quoc Island often have more clouds and daily rain, pleasant temperatures (26-30oC) in October.

Below is our review of the weather in Vietnam in October 2020.

The first week was mostly clouds and isolated rain in most of Vietnam. Torrential rain in the far northern mountains and in the Central Coast coming toward the end of the week.

In the second week, the Central Coast had torrential rain and flooded mostly. Typhoon No. 6, 7 hit the Central Coast continually during the week. Landslides killed several people in Quang Dien (Hue).

The third week was mostly rainy weather in the Central Coast and the region remained flooded.

In the fourth week, Typhoon No. 8 hit the Central Coast from Ha Tinh to Quang Tri. The end of the month came Typhoon Molave (No. 9) which hit Quang Nam and Quang Ngai coast with sustained winds of 90-100kph. Destructive landslides killed several people in Nam Tra My and Phuoc Son (Quang Nam).
