My Tho is the provincial capital of Tien Giang Province. The city is situated on the northern bank of the Mekong River in southern Vietnam.

My Tho is considered the gateway to the Mekong Delta and is a very population tourist attraction for day trippers from Ho Chi Minh City.

Weather and Climate

Located in the Mekong Delta, My Tho has the same weather pattern with two seasons per year: dry season from December to April and rainy season from May to November.

What to See, Tourist Attractions

1/ Thoi Son Island

The island is right on the Tien River, 15 minute by boat from My Tho City. There are lush green and exuberant orchards and coconut forest for the visitors. 2/ Buu Lam Pagoda

The pagoda was started in 1842 by a Buddhist nun who was also a herbal medicine therapist. After her death there was a rich lady named Nguyen Thi Dat who donated fund for the renewal and expansion of the shrine into a pagoda in 1803. The pagoda is for Buddhism of northern school (Mahayana).

3/ Vinh Trang Pagoda

Built as a small shrine in the early 19th century by a district chief – Bui Cong Dat, the pagoda was expanded in late the 19th century by a monk. Nowadays the Vinh Trang Pagoda is the biggest Buddhist center in Tien Giang Province. The architecture is with southern style and the Buddhism is of southern school (Theravada).

4/ Former Residence of Bach Cong Tu (My Tho Playboy)

The house was built in the early 20th century by a wealthy family with European architecture.

5/ Dieu Hoa Communal House

The communal house was built in 1913 with quite a different architecture compared to others in all of Vietnam.

6/ Tien Giang Museum

This is where you can learn a goo deal of the history of Tien Giang Province and its population.

7/ My Tho Market

This is where you learn about local people’s daily life: what they use and what they eat. It is quite an interesting place for a wide range of goods for sales.
