The slaty-backed flycatcher (Ficedula erithacus) is a species of bird in the family Muscicapidae.
The bird is native to the eastern Himalayas, central China, Yunnan ; it winters to northern Indochina.
The genus name is from Latin and refers to a small fig-eating bird (ficus, "fig") supposed to change into the blackcap in winter.
New Latin, from Greek erithakos, a bird, probably the robin.
erithacus Latin meaning "robin" and hence "red-breasted".
