The red-winged laughingthrush (Trochalopteron formosum) is a bird species in the family Leiothrichidae.
The bird is found in south-west China (Sichuan, Yunnan and Guangxi provinces) and north-west Vietnam.

Leiothrix Leiothrichidae Ancient Greek leios meaning "smooth" and thrix meaning "hair".
Trochalopteron: the Ancient Greek trokhalos meaning "round" or "bowed" with pteron meaning "wing".
formosum, formosus Latin formosus beautiful (forma beauty).
