The bird is found in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Northeast India, Nepal and western Yunnan.
Leiothrix Leiothrichidae Ancient Greek leios meaning "smooth" and thrix meaning "hair".
liocichlas: lio possibly from Greek leios for smooth; cichlas from Greek kikhle for thrush.
