Ngoc Linh Nature Reserve, Kon Tum

The Ngoc Linh Nature Reserve stretches in the Tu Mo Rong and Dak Glei Districts of Kon Tum Province, in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. 

Geography

The nature reserve covers an area of  41,547 hectares with over 98% covered in forest. The highest point in the nature reserve is the Ngoc Linh Peak which is 2,598m above sea level.

There is another Ngoc Linh Nature Reserve which covers 14,883 hectares in Nam Tra My District of Quang Nam Province. These two nature reserves are adjacent and form the same ecosystem; they are only under different provincial administrations. Most of the area belong to Kon Tum Province though.

Flora at the Ngoc Linh Nature Reserve 

There are 1091 vascular plant species in the Ngoc Linh Nature Reserve of which several are listed as endangered species. Some endemic and rare species: 
- Ngoc Linh ginseng (Sam Ngoc Linh);
- Agarwood (aloeswood, eaglewood or gharuwood, Tram Huong );
- Cinnamomum balansae (Vu Huong);
- Yellow vine (Coscinium fenestratum, Family: Menispermaceae, Vang Dang);
- Anoectochilus setaceus (Lan Kim Tuyen)

Fauna at the Ngoc Linh Nature Reserve 

There 91 animal species at the Ngoc Linh Nature Reserve with several rare and endangered species on the cusp of extinction. 
There are 234 bird species with several endemic ones and endangered ones.

When visiting Ngoc Linh Nature Reserve, you can spot :
- Macaque;
- Clouded leopard;
- Tigers;
- Malayan porcupine;
- Truong Son Muntjac (Muntiacus truongsonensis, Mang Truong Son);
- Red-shanked, gray-shanked, black-shanked douc langur (Cha Va Chan Xam, Cha Va Chan Nau, Cha Va Chan Den);
- Sunbear, Asian black bear (Asiatic black bear, Gau Cho);
- Sunda Slow Loris (greater slow loris, Cu Li Lon);
- Siamese fireback (Ga Loi Hong Tia);
- Silver Pheasant (Ga Loi);
- Ngoc Linh golden winged laughingthrush (Khuou Ngoc Linh);
- White-cheeked laughingthrush (Khuou Dau Xam);
- Collared laughingthrush (Khuou Dau Den Ma Xam);
- Vietnamese Crested argus (Tri Sao);
- Spectacled Barwing (Khướu đuôi vằn Vân Nam);
- Black-crowned Barwing (Khướu vằn đầu đen)
