Birding and Bird Species at Phia Oac Phia Den National Park Vietnam

The Phia Oac - Phia Den (correctly spelled as Phja Oac - Phja Den) is located in Nguyen Binh District, Cao Bang Province, northeastern Vietnam. The national park is 70km west of Cao Bang City via Route 34, the provincial capital of the eponymous province. The national park is 250km north of Hanoi via Route 3 and Route 279.

The Phia Oac - Phia Den was established as a national park in 2018 with the total area of over 10,000 hectares. The name of the national park is from the names of the two highest mountain peaks in the area: Phja Oac (1,931m) and Phja Den (1,391m). The terrain of the national park includes limestone mountains with underground rivers enclosing small valleys.

The national park is characterized by dwarf forest (elfin forest, or pygmy forest) with temperate climate. There are 1,287 floral species and 496 vertebrate species.

The best time for birding at the Phia Oac - Phia Den National Park is from late November through May.

Due to the remote location and lack of information that Phia Oach - Phia Den National Park is not often visited on birding tours in Vietnam.
