The Ba Be National Park in Bac Kan Province is located 230km north of Hanoi. The national park is a system of rivers, forested karst mountains and lakes covering an area of 10,048 hectares.
The name Ba Be comes from the three bulged sections of a water body fed by different rivers: Tà Han, Bó Lù and Lèng to the south and the Nang River to the north. The Ba Be Lake, the centre of the national park, is on 178m above sea level with width of 500m and length of over 8km on the north-south axis. The averaged depths of the lake are from 17-23m and the deepest place is 35m.
