The Hoang Lien National Park is located in Sapa District of Lao Cai Province and part of Tan Uyen District of Lai Chau Province. The total area of the national park is 29,845ha with altitudes from 1,000m to 3,000m above sea level.
The temperatures at the Hoang Lien National Park is cool all year round which makes it habitats for species on high altitudes mostly. The best time for birding at the Hoang Lien National Park is from late November through April. Summer (May - July) and autumn (August-October) could offer good birding experiences provided it does not rain and it is not in time of a typhoon. In case of typhoon, it is advised that no birdwatching tours be operated.
