Ban Gioc Waterfall is 100 km north-east of Cao Bang Town. The road from Cao Bang to Ban Gioc offers scenic landscapes with opportunities to visit villages of the Tay and the Nung ethnic minorities. While it is fairly easy to travel most of the way, there are the passes of Ma Phuc and Khau Liem that may need extra care on a wet day.

Travel Guide to Ban Gioc Waterfall in Cao Bang

What to expect

The waterfall is created by the Quay Son River which flows from China into Vietnam, from northwest to southeast. Before and after the Ban Gioc Waterfall, the river flows along the Vietnam - China Border. At Ban Gioc, the river bed drops suddenly and the waterfall is created. The waterfall is 208m wide and 60-70m high. In the middle of the waterfall there is a wood with lots of trees.

Things to do

Visiting the Ban Gioc Waterfall you can go on a bamboo raft to get closer. For those who have more time you can go kayaking or white-water rafting on the Quay Son River. The trip is not really an adventurous experience and everyone can do it. You would need at least half a day extra for these activities though.

Near Ban Gioc, there are ancient village of Khuoi Ky with houses built of rock, and the Nguom Ngao Cave which goes through a mountain with scenic valleys around. These spots should also be visited in combination with a trip to Ban Gioc.
