Thai Binh Province is located in the southeast of the Red River in northern Vietnam. The province is among the few places in northern Vietnam where the traditional culture of the Red River Delta is best preserved.

Geography

The terrain of Thai Binh is basically flat as it is mostly created by river basins. There are several rivers crisscrossing the province: the Red River, Tra Ly, Diem Ho, Luoc, Kien Giang…

The two biggest rivers in Vietnam flow past Thai Binh creating the natural boundary of the province: The Thai Binh River to the north and the Red River to the south. These two rivers flow in the direction from northwest to southeast. Most major rivers within the province flow in this direction discharging the water into the East Vietnam Sea.

Thanks to the geography that the traditional economic activities in Thai Binh involve either agriculture or the sea. Thai Binh is where several-century-long traditions which are typical of the Red River Delta are preserved. The daily lifestyle in Thai Binh still reflects that of centuries ago.

But the province is not visited much by the travellers to Vietnam. Some travellers will only pass through the province on the way between Ha Long Bay or Hai Phong City and Ninh Binh. It is possible that there are several high-profile tourist attractions in neighboring provinces which overshadow those in Thai Binh. But for this very reason, adventure travelers may have great experiences venturing through the province.

Weather and Climate

It seems there is no good time or not so good time to visit Thai Binh as in any season you can find the best moments for yourself. Thai Binh has a tropical monsoon climate with four seasons:
- Spring: February through April with pleasant temperatures, some foggy weather, some lovely sunshine, some light drizzles, some day with moist air;
- Summer: May through July with hot temperatures and high humidity, some short-lived refreshing showers, some typhoons/tropical depressions in June-July;
- Autumn: August through October with pleasant temperatures, mild sunshine, lovely breezes, occasional typhoons and tropical depressions;
- Winter: November through January with strong winds, cold and dry weather mostly, some sunshine but more likely overcast skies.

1/ Keo Pagoda

Keo Pagoda is one of the most famous and important pagodas in Thai Binh as well as in Vietnam. It was built in the 17th century and is known for its beautiful architecture, intricate wood carvings, and religious and cultural significance to local communities.

2/ Dong Xam Silver Village

Dong Xam Silver Village (Dong Thai Commune, Kien Xuong District) is a small village located 20km from Thai Binh City. The village is famous for its traditional silver craft, which has been passed down from generation to generation since the 15th century. At the height, craftsmen from the village traveled all over Vietnam for their business including making silverware for the Royal Court in Hue. Craftsmen from this village helped to shape up the business at the Silver Street (Pho Hang Bac) in Hanoi’s Old Quarter.

Visitors can see how silver jewelry and decorative items are made and buy some as souvenirs.
