A Flower Hmong lady at Bac Ha Sunday MarketThe trek is off-the-tourist track in the Plateau of Bac Ha with average elevation above 900m. Each day we trek for 5-6 hours on mountain slope, through valleys, through forests of peach trees and plum trees. In spring time, we'll travel our way amid colorful blossoms. In April-early May, we could pick for ourselves fresh fruits which are just on the way.

For the nights, we'll stay at the home of different ethnic families: Hmong and Phu La. The conditions are basic, but clean. The atmosphere is just unforgettable. We'll have different chances to learn about the life and culture of the local ethnic minorities as well as their daily life on the tour. At each village, our hosts will treat us with their traditional cuisine for dinner. We could also try various types of rice wine and corn rice of the local which Bac Ha is known for.

Leaving Hanoi in the evening, we take 4-shared cabin on the local train for Pho Lu. The night is comfortable enough with soft and air-con sleepers. Arriving at Pho Lu Township early next morning, we'll meet the local driver and travel for 40 minutes to Bac Ha Town. We have time for breakfast, then set out for the trek. Our first night in Bac Ha is at Ta Van Chu, a village of the Flower Hmong ethnic. Ta Van Chu is surrounded by dense forest and wild mountains.

On the third day, we trek for about 20km (5-6 hours) to Lung Phing Village which is home to the Phu La ethnic group. This corner of Bac Ha is hardly visited by most travelers and the scenery is just fresh. Local ethnic here don't see foreigners often and they are curious to encounter you on the way. We'll stay at a house on stilts of a Phu La family.Bac Ha ethnic market

On the fourth day, we trek for about 18km to Pho Village, home to the Flower Hmong People. The village is surrounded by low hills and terraces. Pho Village is only 2km from Bac Ha Sunday Market that we could visit on the final day in town before leaving on the overnight train back to Hanoi. Trekking in Bac Ha is definitely a great chance to get yourself trained with physical challenges and learn about different cultures of the local ethnic minorities in Bac Ha, Vietnam.
