Phat Tich Pagoda: Travel Guide, What to See

The Phat Tich Pagoda is in Phat Tich Commune, Tien Du District, Bac Ninh Province in northern Vietnam. There is no definitive confirmation as to when the pagoda was built.

In the 11th A.D the huge Buddhist Tower at the pagoda collapsed revealing a gold statue of A Di Da Buddha, hence the name Phat Tich which means the Legend of the Buddha. Archaeological artifacts found at the pagoda suggest that there had been a pagoda on the site since the 7th century A.D.

There was a major renovation in the 11th century that Phat Tich was turned into a big complex. Another major renewal was done in the 17th century. The pagoda was destroyed by the French in 1947 and has been rebuilt many times since then.
