Travel Guide to the Dau Go Cave on Halong Bay

The cave of Dau Go was used to conceal wooden stakes by the Vietnamese troops in the war against the Mongols' invasion. Back in the 13th century, Vietnam was invaded by the Mongols for three times. During the last invasion in 1288, the Mongols chased after the Vietnamese King around the area of Quang Ninh, Hai Phong and Hung Yen Provinces.

The General Commander in Chief of the Royal Army then was Tran Hung Dao who ordered the troops to cut down timber from Halong City and transported them to Dau Go Cave. At Dau Go, the timbers were made into pointed stakes, then carried to the Bach Dang River in Hai Phong. On the Bach Dang River, the stakes were used to make up a trap to destroy the Mongol boats and brought victory to the Vietnamese. From that time on, the cave in Halong Bay started being known as Wooden Stakes Cave.
