Tam Dao National Park is home to 239 bird species of which some species are endemic to northern Vietnam and some are endemic to Vietnam. Our birding trails are on different altitudes and there are opportunities for different bird species on each of the trails.

The best time for birdwatching at Tam Dao is during the dry season from late November through April. Please note that it is very cold in December and January at Tam Dao. And it is possible for bird watching at Tam Dao in the summer and autumn if it is not the time the region is under impact of a typhoon which is occasionally found during the months between June-October. During the impact of a typhoon, visiting Tam Dao is not recommended at all.

Accommodations at Tam Dao range from basic hotels to mid-range (3*) hotels. All meals on the tour are included for your convenience. 

While Tam Dao is home to a wide range of bird species, depending on the season we may sight only some of them: Indochinese yuhina, Black-chinned yuhina, long-tailed minivet, common green-magpie, Tristram's bunting, crow-billed drongos, black drongos, golden babbler, plaintive cuckoo, large hawk-cuckoo, Oriental honey-buzzard, crested serpent-eagle, yellow-bellied leafbird, blue whistling-thrush, blue-naped pitta, blue-rumped pitta,...

It is worth noting that the environtment in Vietnam has experienced different periods of tremendous changes: destructive wars; agent orange and toxic chemicals during the war; destructive exploitation of natural resources, and forestry; heavy and ignorant use of chemical agriculture... Illegal hunting and logging have always been a big problem, and of course bad management, and irresponsibility of the responsible,... The area of the Tam Dao National Park has not been an exception at all.

But, the good news is that the government is insisting on wildlife protection and enforcing different laws on protecting nature and wildlife. The living standards are getting better nationwide. Tam Dao has attracted a lot of investments in the tourist infrastructure: tourism is booming, live of local communities are getting better,... The nature of Tam Dao is at risk, but enforcement of different laws on evironmental protections is more and more strict,... Wildlife in Vietnam is showing signs of healing...

We hope more visitors to Vietnam and to Tam Dao on wildlife tours and birding tours would raise more environmental protection awareness and more responsible behavior from local communities as well as local authorities,...

Detailed itinerary

Day1    Hanoi - Tam Dao National Park/Birding at the mountain base (L/D) 

0800 Our driver picks you up from your hotel and we travel to Tam Dao National Park.
1000-1030 Arrive at Tam Dao, bird watching at the base of the mountain.
1230-1330 Lunch.
The remainder of the afternoon is for birding on the altitudes of over 1,000m above sea level.

Day2    Tam Dao Birdwatching -Hanoi (specialist tour guide at Tam Dao included)/Depart Tam Dao for Hanoi (B/L) 

Breakfast at the hotel or a local restaurant.
More birding on high altitudes around Tam Dao Hillstation.
Lunch at a local restaurant.
1500-1530 Depart Tam Dao for Hanoi. 
1700-1800 Arrive at your hotel in Hanoi. End of service.
