Streaked shearwater
(Hải âu mày trắng, Calonectris leucomelas)

The streaked shearwater (Calonectris leucomelas) is a species of seabird.

The bird species occurs in the Pacific Ocean, nesting in Japan and the Korean Peninsula, predominantly on their offshore islands.
After breeding, the streaked shearwater migrates south, feeding in the seas off northern New Guinea, the Arafura Sea, and the East Vietnam Sea.

The name Procellariiformes comes from Latin, combining procella (meaning "storm" or "gale") with -formes (meaning "shape" or "form"), literally "storm-shaped" or "storm-like," fitting these seabirds' reliance on wind for flight, and refers to their stormy habitats and powerful wings.

The name is derived from the type genus Procellaria which in turn is derived from the Latin word procella meaning "storm" or "gale".

The genus name Calonectris comes from Ancient Greek kalos, "good" and nectris, "swimmer".

The streaked shearwater (Calonectris leucomelas) is a species of seabird.

Leucomelas (or leucomelos) comes from Greek roots meaning "white-black," combining leukos (white) and melas (black).
