The blue-throated bee-eater (Merops viridis) is a species of bird in the bee-eater family Meropidae.
The bird has a wide distribution ranging from southeastern China to the Greater Sundas Islands.

The genus name Merops is Ancient Greek for "bee-eater".
The specific epithet viridis is Latin meaning "green".
