    The blue-and-white flycatcher (Cyanoptila cyanomelana) is a migratory songbird in the Old World flycatcher family Muscicapidae. 
    The bird breeds in Japan, Korea, and in parts of north eastern China and the Russian Far East and winters in South East Asia: in Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Sumatra and Borneo. 

    The genus name Cyanoptila comes from ancient Greek: "kuanos" meaning dark-blue; and "ptilon" – plumage. 
    The specific cyanomelana also comes from "kuanos", and melas, melanos meaning dark, black.

    The bird breeds in central China and winters to the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and Java. 

    The genus name Cyanoptila comes from ancient Greek: "kuanos" meaning dark-blue; and "ptilon" – plumage. 
    cumatilis Latin cumatilis sea-coloured, blue (Greek kuma wave).
