  • Pelecanidae

    The Pelecanidae is a family of pelecaniform birds within the Pelecani that contains three genera: 
    - the extinct Eopelecanus,
    - the Miopelecanus,
    - and the extant Pelecanus.

     Pelecanus: Greek pelekan, pelekanos pelican.
     Greek pelekan (πελεκάν), meaning "pelican" or related to "axe" (pelekys).
     From pelekys (πέλεκυς), meaning "axe," likely due to the shape of the bill.

  • Pelecanus

    Pelicans (genus Pelecanus) are a genus of large water birds that make up the family Pelecanidae with a long beak and a large throat pouch.
    The throat pouch is used for catching prey and draining water from the scooped-up contents before swallowing. 

    1/ Great white pelican (Bồ nông trắng lớn, Pelecanus onocrotalus) also known as the eastern white pelican, rosy pelican or simply white pelican
    2/ Spot-billed pelican (Bồ nông chân xám, Pelecanus philippensis) or gray pelican
