Loriculus, or hanging parrots, is a genus of small parrots in the family Psittaculidae.
The name is a diminutive of the genus Lorius.

The vernal hanging parrot (Loriculus vernalis) is a small parrot which is a resident breeder in the Indian subcontinent and some other areas of Southeast Asia.

The scientific order name Psittaciformes (which includes all parrots, cockatoos, and macaws) comes from the Latin word for parrot (psittacus), which in turn is derived from the Ancient Greek word for parrot (psittakós).

Psittaculidae, Psittacula: a diminutive of the Latin word psittacus meaning "parrot".

The name Loriculus is a diminutive of the genus Lorius which originates from "lory" which comes from the Malay lūri, a name used for a number of species of colourful parrots.

vernalis: is from the Latin word "ver" for spring; the term is to indicate the bright and fresh emerald-green plumage of the bird.
Hanging parrot: The bird roosts and sleeps upside down, suspending themselves by their feet from high tree branches.
