The green broadbill (Calyptomena viridis) is a small bird in the family Calyptomenidae.

    Calyptomenidae is from Greek:
Kaluptos (καλυπτός): Meaning "covered," "concealed," or "hidden" (referring to how the birds' bills are nearly concealed by their forehead feathers).
     Mēnē (μήνη): Meaning "moon".

The genus name Calyptomena combines Ancient Greek kaluptos meaning "covered", and mene meaning "moon".

In Latin, viridis is a third-declension adjective meaning "green", "fresh", or "youthful". It originates from the verb vireo (to be green or to flourish).
