  • Cormorant

    The bird species is found in the wetlands of the plains of tropical Asia south of the Himalayas in the Indian Subcontinent and extending into Southeast Asia.
    The English name stork is derived from the Old English word storc (from at least 12th century).

    The genus name Mycteria comes from the Ancient Greek word μυκτήρ (myktēr), meaning "snout," "nose," or "nostril". It is a New Latin genus name given to a type of stork, referencing the bird's prominent beak or bill, with the suffix -ia.
