Les Alcédinidés ou Alcedinidae forment une famille d'oiseaux plus connus sous les noms de martins-pêcheurs et martins-chasseurs.

Le nom Alcedinidae vient du latin alcēdō, qui provient du grec ancien ἀλκυών (alkuṓn): halcyon, martins-pêcheurs ou martins-chasseurs.

The name Coraciiformes means "raven-like". Specifically, it comes from the Latin language "corax", meaning "raven" and Latin "forma", meaning "form".

L'ordre des Coraciiformes comprend 6 familles actuelles d'oiseaux.
Coraciiformes est construit à partir d'un terme grec ancien, Κόραξ (Kórax) signifiant corbeau en grec et forme de même sens qu'en français. Ce terme désigne donc des oiseaux qui ressemblent aux corbeaux.
