Vietnam Weather in June 2019

June is summer in northern Vietnam, the hot dry season in the Central Coast of Vietnam, the rainy season in the Central Highlands and South of Vietnam. It does not happen often but there may be typhoons hitting the North of Vietnam in June.

There are usually heat strikes in northern Vietnam, especially the Red River Delta (including Hanoi) and part of the Northwest (Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, Lao Cai). There are occasional short-lived heavy rains in the North in June.

In June 2019, Vietnam suffered badly from extreme weather: torrential rains causing flash floods in the North and in Lam Dong, bad heat strikes and serious drought in the Central Coast, typhoon in the North.

1/ Torrential rains in all the Northwest at the beginning of June 2019; from the second week of June 2019, heavy rains were found in all the far-northern mountains; more rainfalls in the Northeast.

Flash floods in Dien Bien (Dien Bien Dong District) with heavy damage at the beginning of the month.

2/Almost month-long heat strike in the North with daily temperatures 29-40oC. The far-northern mountains suffered from the heat strike too and this is not usual.

3/ Flash floods in Ban Ho Village in Sapa and Lai Chau (Nam Nhun) in the fourth week with devastating damage.

4/A month long heat-strike in the Central Coast of Vietnam from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen, Ninh Thuan with constantly high temperatures 29-39oC. There was a serious drought in the region posing threat to local inhabitants’ daily life and agriculture.

5/The rainy season in the Central Highlands of Vietnam and South of Vietnam was as usual: daily short-lived rains and pleasant temperatures: 22-31oC in the Central Highlands and 26-34oC in the South.

6/ Flash floods in Lam Dong (Bao Loc) in the third week with much damage to local inhabitants.

7/Highest temperatures reached 42-43oC for many days in the Central Coast which are the record-high temperatures in Vietnam.

8/The month ended with a coming tropical depression in the North which later turned into Typhoon No.2 in Vietnam in 2019.
