The green park at Wat Phnom, Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Phnom Penh, the capital city of the Kingdom of Cambodia, is located right at the the junction of the Mekong, the Tonle Bassac and Tonle Sap Rivers. The rivers meet at Phnom Penh forming an 'X' which made the city known as 'Krong Chaktomuk' - the City of Four Faces previously.

 The name Phnom Penh originated from Wat Phnom Pagoda, a Buddhist pagoda in Phom Penh. There was a legend that an old nun called Lady Penh who came to the Mekong River and found a floating tree trunk. There was a hole in the trunk which contained five Buddha statues. Then she ordered the construction of a Buddhist pagoda to house the statues which was named Wat Phnom Penh or Wat Phnom nowadays.
